Updates

I’m somewhere between 29-31 weeks, I think just over 30 and things are going fairly well. This pregnancy has been different. At around 22 weeks gestation, I went to the ER after what I perceived to be a large loss of fluid. It felt similar to my water breaking last time but did end up stopping. That was an experience I’d rather not have again. After an initial exam, the conversations were grim: they couldn’t deliver one and save the other because I have placenta previa. I wasn’t at viability yet, so delivering both wasn’t an option. Somehow, someway, all the tests came back negative. It wasn’t amniotic fluid, my fluids were fine, and the babies were okay. Due to the placenta previa, I’ve been on pelvic rest since that time. We were hoping it would move but it doesn’t look like that’s the case, so all hopes of a VBAC are out the window.

My c-section is scheduled for September 16th, hopefully – which is right before 37 weeks. If I make it there, it will be further than I carried Isabelle and Carter which is hopeful. Due to the placenta, it’s ideal that I don’t go into labor, so it’s a moving target. Next week starts weekly appointments – ultrasounds, non-stress tests, and doctors visits to check on Isabelle and Carter’s brother and sister.

We’re excited, but nervous. Four children under three is…..something. We’re trying to make sure we have enough help to make it through with our sanity and marriage in tact. Physically, this pregnancy has been painful. I took my last orange theory class right around 25 weeks and have been taking it easy since then. I had multiple palatal expanders (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palatal_expansion) as a child and it kind of feels like that, but for my pelvis. Walking hurts, but there’s no getting around walking.

On the agenda for the next seven weeks is maybe some meal prepping, bottle washing, and trying to spend as much time with our current little ones as possible. We’re still planning on doing a full tubal removal. That will allow us to still transfer our last embryo at some point, but will prevent any accidents going forward and possibly help prolong the need for a hysterectomy. I’m much more nervous for this c-section than the prior, but I have faith that it will be okay.

Wish us luck!

  1. Your Uncle Dan and I are thinking of you, Annie. You are a very positive, optimistic (and courageous!) young woman. I am sure all be fine with these two new babies. Caring for four little ones must seem like an astronomical amount of work, but they WILL grow up–much faster than you can imagine! We send all good wishes to you and Justin.
    Love, Aunt Nancy
